Living a life with sickness is hard. You question God, your decision, and your surroundings as a possible reason for your current condition. You wear the label of sickness and walk around defeated. I, myself, am not sick, but I have a child who is walking through his own medical challenges. As a mother, we carry the weight of our children’s burden on ourselves. We wrestle with it as if these challenges are our own. Sometimes, we even wear the label of sickness. Do you know you can put down the label of sickness and walk in victory?
I know someone is wondering how dare you say it’s as easy as laying down sickness. Don’t belittle my struggle or someone else’s struggle. If you are coming guarded with this statement, I ask you to take a minute and journey with me deeper on the topic. I know you can’t simply lay down cancer, epilepsy, or heart condition, BUT you can change your mindset toward it. You can walk in Victory and still be physically sick. WHY? Because you are a spiritual being and have the ability to operate in a manner regardless of your condition. I am saying you have the freedom to operate in the spirit realm and still find victory in the midst of your current condition. Your sickness doesn’t have to drain the life out of you.
Yes, you must be aware of your condition but your condition does not have to control your thought process. When I found out my son was dealing with epilepsy and loss of brain matter, I had two choices. I could wear his sickness or proclaim his victory. I can let his journey propel me toward the savior or drive me away from Him. After a couple of weeks to truly take in this journey God allowed me to walk, I made a choice. My son may be sick but I will take the posture of victory. I will give him his medicine and take him to his appointments, but my mindset is total restoration whether he receives it on earth or in heaven.
I followed the word and called for the support of my church, OCBF. The word tells us, “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.” James 5:14. I changed my conversation to conversations of victory to match the blind man when Jesus told him,”According to your faith let it be done to you”. I didn’t want my lack of faith to be the reason God didn’t restore his body on earth. For I know in heaven my son will be 100% restored and made new, but I wanted the faith that backed up his deliverance now. Are your conversations blocking your miracle? Is your mindset limiting God’s ability to restore?
Now, I am not saying you are sick or still sick because of your lack of belief, but Jesus says that is one possibility. Sometimes a condition keeps us humble and on the path of righteousness. Paul had a thorn of the flesh. In addition, he was suddenly blinded on the road to Damascus. This condition was temporarily given to convict and convert the soul of Saul. This conviction lead to one of the biggest patriots of the faith spreading the gospel to the gentiles (us).
Another reason could be for the glory of God when you consider the blind man who Jesus said neither his parents nor he had sinned. His blindness was for the glory of God. Is this the reason my son is sick? I am not 100% sure. However, we must not get ourselves stuck on the why but convert to say “God, use this for your Glory”.
When we get so caught up in the way which doesn’t help us release the label of sickness, we invite the devil to steal our joy. His goal is to use sickness to keep us from experiencing the love of God. To walk in defeat and anger due to our condition. So, I beg you don’t let the why kill your hope in a future. However, lives can be changed and hearts can be mended if we take the posture of Victory by changing our mindset in the midst of the physical condition.
So what can we do?
Believe> Pray > Walk.
Believe that the Lord can heal your sickness. Surround yourself with others who believe the Lord can heal. Remember the power of your thoughts. Proverbs 18:21 says, “21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Understand that some people don’t receive their prayer of healing until they reach heaven, but he promises to use every situation for the Glory of those who love the Lord. So, believe that if it is the will of God to be made whole today, He can do it.
Pray to the Lord for good health, not doubting in our hearts when you ask. The bible tells us, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” So, you may also need to ask for help with doubting. Remember, we all have doubts, but it’s important not to doubt while praying.
Also, you must not live in your doubt. Having moments of doubt is normal. Jesus had doubts about the cross, but he didn’t let his doubt of the cross change his faith in the Victory of the Lord. Matthew 26:39“Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” He asked for something but was able to walk away with faith in his God and the plan. Understand that God will always do what is best for his children even if, at the moment, we may not agree. Remember God sees the future and causes every situation to happen with the end at mind.
Walk: Understand you must walk whatever journey life gives you with faith and trust in God. I have heard from many people who have lived with sickness that their condition saved family members and helped others through their journey. The miracle of healing has convicted and turn hearts to Christ. The Lord can use either path for his purpose.
Does that mean God causes all sickness? No! However, He turns every situation around. If you smoked cigarettes for 20 years and get lung cancer, you can’t blame God when you made the decision to smoke. We can’t blame God for everything. We are human and our human mistakes cause sickness. Is that the cause for everyone? NO! Yet, the bible says sickness can be caused by the devil, our decisions, sin, or God. You have to examine your life and ask your God for the answer to that question, but remember dwelling in that question doesn’t help you walk in Victory.
At the end, it’s our responsibility to walk out the faith we say we believe and trust God for the outcome. If my son remains in this physical condition, it will be for the Glory of God. If my son receives total restoration, it will be for the Glory of God. Sickness doesn’t have to be a period ending my life. It can be a comma with souls being saved because of my trust in the love of God.
I know walking in this manner can be difficult if we don’t see our prayers answered on earth. Again, we must remember our prayer of healing can be answered on earth or in heaven or both. We must trust God and ask for peace to walk the path of our life without bitterness. Do you know this type of behavior will turn the hearts of unbelievers? Take the stance…”I will praise him, but in the meantime I will walk in victory and have faith of total healing.” With this mindset I release the label of sickness and walk in the Mindset of Victory and you can do the same thing. Just think of Christ. It wasn’t an easy thing to live a blameless life, to be falsely accused, and to be put to death>>>>>>BUT>>>> through his sacrifice, we are saved. We may not understand his ways, but our place is to believe, pray, and walk, trusting God to answer according to his will.
Are you ready to walk out your faith for healing according to his will and remove the label of sickness in order to live victorious? Below I have included a prayer and scriptures for healing. This a prayer I compared, but you can add and subtract as your heart sees fit. I pray that my words have helped you. I join my heart with yours for your total restoration.
Thank you for your grace, mercy, and love. Thank you for your sacrifice of the cross that allows me to know you. Today I humbly come to the throne room of grace with a petition of healing with confidence knowing you are a mighty and powerful God capable of answering any prayer. I am praying according to your word when it says, “if I ask anything according to your will, you hear us.” If I know that you hear us–whatever I ask–I know that I have what I asked of you. I know you have done many miracles of healings. You can make the blind to see, the lame to walk and the deaf to hear. I pray that you heal me in accordance with _______________________ and my faith aligns with the scripture________________________________. Give me the faith to trust You in every situation and peace to walk my life with purpose toward your kingdom. I trust and believe that you will deliver my healing. If it be thy will for me not to receive my healing until I get to the gates of heaven, please Lord, let me walk in the Victory of Jesus Christ. For I know that all things work out for the good of those who love the Lord according to Romans 8:28. Give me that peace that passes understanding and turns people toward the kingdom with my testimony of your love toward me. Thank you, Father, for your love and mercy which I do not deserve for I am a sinner, but I am saved through the blood of the cross. Thank you for your blood that washes away all sin. Thank you for your grace that gives me opportunities after I have fallen short. Thank you for your love that surrounds me and breaks every stronghold. Let your will be done. Amen.
